Northumberland and the Scottish Borders are a walkers’ paradise. Even for those who wouldn’t normally spend their days traversing the nation’s highways and byways, the area with its big skies, spectacular views, open moors, heather clad hills and breathtaking coastline, entices you to step out.
It’s a place where you can find tranquillity on a leisurely stroll or adventure on a more challenging hill and moorland trek in the rolling Cheviots which hug the Scottish Border.
Northumberland National Park alone has 600 miles (900km) of way marked footpaths and bridleways to choose from.
In fact, there are so many walks you will be spoilt for choice.
The following Northumberland National Park walks have been chosen by the countryside body’s own rangers. All are self-guided and have information on the wildlife and history you can expect to see.
Each has been graded on its difficulty – some are easy and some not so. And where applicable the rangers have even included refreshment stops in the route information for those who like their walks to be unhurried affairs.
Thisisnorthumberland.com will be suggesting more walks for you as time goes on. But in the meantime why not download one of these Northumberland National Park Rangers’ Favourites and discover for yourself why the area has been dubbed ‘the land of far horizons.’
