The Forestry Commission and Sunderland Astronomical Society are staging a special event in October at Kielder where people will be able to see the Milky Way. Stargazers will use extremely powerful telescopes at Kielder Castle, enjoying stunning views of star clusters and taking tours of constellations.
Kielder Observatory in Kielder Water & Forest Park will host a series of star gazing events specifically aimed at kids interested in the night sky. The facility hosts a year-round programme of astronomy events. But to get the best of the darkest night skies in England, the events usually take place from 8pm till late. At February half term between 10-17, there will be additional events aimed at families that start from 5pm.
