An urgent new appeal has been issued to help save threatened red squirrels in south Northumberland near Hexham and Slayley. The reds are struggling to compete with the greys and are also being exposed to the deadly squirrelpox virus. Please find out how you can support this appeal.

Staff from and volunteers from the Red Squirrels Northern England (RSNE) conservation partnership have explored more than 200 woodlands in Northumberland, Cumbria, Merseyside, Durham and North Yorkshire to find out what kind of squirrels are resident. Their work has allowed the creation of brand new maps, showing that red squirrels are doing very well.
