Easter treats aplenty in the Great North

Davenport's Easter eggs

Davenport’s Easter eggs made on Tyneside are artistic and beautiful and are in great demand this Easter!

Easter will be upon us in just a couple of weeks, and no doubt we’re all looking forward to a few days off, lots of chocolate and hopefully some nice weather too!

If you’re looking for Easter eggs, events or experiences then look no further as TASTECLUB members have got it covered, from egg hunts for the kids to beer and food festivals for the adults.

Tasty Easter treats

Celebrate Easter in a traditional way with Simnel cake – a light fruit cake with a layer of marzipan through the centre and another on top, and eleven marzipan balls to represent the disciples. Jenkins and Hustwit make a delicious version – you can order one (or more!) from TASTECLUB’S gift store.

For Easter eggs, give the supermarkets a miss and buy chocolate that has been lovingly handmade by our Great North producers. Bev Stephenson at North Chocolates has created a Hot Cross Fun gourmet chocolate bar – made with cinnamon, orange, a hint of cardamom and plenty of sultanas – as well as ‘Hoppy’ Easter eggs, which come in mint, popping candy, and strawberry flavours. Head to the website for stockist details.

Davenport’s Chocolates also has a range of Easter eggs that would make great gifts. Handcrafted and beautifully decorated with luxury chocolates sealed inside them, they come in two sizes and in various flavours including fudge mallow, chilli truffles and violet creams.

Great North Easter experiences

Kenspeckle is offering ‘Chocolate Eggsperience Days’, giving chocolate lovers the chance to make their own unique Easter eggs in a three-hour workshop.

The Eggsperience Days are running in Lynemouth on 6th hurry and book your place here.

Exciting Easter events

There are lots of not-to-be-missed events coming up around the region and we’ve rounded them all up on our What’s On guide. The Feathers Inn in Hedley on the Hill, Stocksfield is hosting an Easter Beer and Food Festival from April 18 to 21, with more than 20 real ales available all weekend. This is now in its eighth year, and is usually a sell-out so make sure you book early!

Keep the little ones entertained by heading to Vallum Farm for its Kids Kitchen workshops and Easter egg hunt on Saturday 12th to 21st April. The egg hunts will kick off at 10.30am and 1.30pm, and places can be booked by calling 01434 672652. What’s more, there will also be complimentary face painting and fancy dress is very much encouraged!

The Kids Kitchen workshops will run from 10.30am – 3pm with activities including pizza making, ice cream making and biscuit decorating – there’s no need to book.
