The Olympic Flame relay will stop in Alnwick on June 14

Tickets for a June celebration marking the path of the Olympic Torch through Northumberland will soon be accessible online.

They can be secured at the Northumberland county council’s website www.northumberland.gov.uk from 9am on Thursday, May 3. They will be distributed as e-tickets.

People without internet access can book tickets by visiting their local library, tourist information centre or council contact centre.

The event will be set in The Pastures, situated at the foot of Alnwick Castle on June 14. That day the Olympic flame will make a stop over night in Alnwick as it travels south.

The entertainment for the event has not been revealed, but the show, which is expected to last for two hours, will be a fantastic  mix of theatre and music. It will feature some local talent, too.  Without doubt the highlight will be the lighting of the Olympic cauldron, by a  torch bearer, marking the end of the day’s proceedings.

The gates to the event will open at 4pm and the celebration will kick-off at 5.30pm. It is a standing-only celebration, but people are welcome to bring rugs and chairs to the show. As well, there will be provision for wheelchair access on the site and for blue badge holders.

There are 66 towns across the UK that are planning evening celebrations to mark the Olympic torch’s journey.  Alnwick is one of those towns.
