The Tuesday market in Hexham has won a prestigious national award.
It’s been voted best small outdoor market in Britain in an online poll. The award comes from the National Association of British Market Authorities.
The new title took some officials by surprise because the market is smaller than it used to be, and not as big as the town’s regular Saturday market.
Jeremy Bradin, Director of the award sponsors, KPR Midlink Ltd, said: “KPR are very pleased at the response to the KPR Market of the Year competition that once again gave us a very high standard of entries. There were many innovative and interesting entries showing the market managers and market offices are becoming more and more proactive and innovative in these difficult times. ”
Graham Wilson, member of the judging panel, added: “We were delighted with the number and quality of this year’s entries, which continue to improve year on year. This year’s entries were the best so far, proving that there are still many excellent markets around the UK. The Market of the Year competition is also a great stimulus to the markets industry in these very challenging times.”
