The Autumn Haltwhistle Walking Festival is set to take place from Oct. 8 to Oct. 16.

The festival takes place twice a year – Spring and Autumn. Each is special in its own way and of course a highlight of the Autumn event is the colours and the wildlife.

Hikes run in length from five to 14 miles. They are graded from easy, moderate to strenuous. It costs £6 per walk and many are already sold out, so keen walkers are encouraged to contact festival organisers or log on to the festival site and book as soon as possible.

You can get a brochure by contacting the festival at email, or on 01434 322894 or online at

Please bring a packed lunch on a walk. Children are welcome as long as they are seven years old or older and with an adult. Unfortunately dogs are not permitted.

Some of the walks are themed, but all cover fantastic countryside with warm and enjoyable walking companions.

Northumberland is a major destination for walking holidays and the area around Haltwhistle has a number of holiday cottages in Northumberland where people stay for walking holidays.
