The small and beautiful fishing and holiday town of Eyemouth in the Scottish Borders has now been given the go ahead to receive cruise ships.
The first cruise ship is set to visit the port of Eyemouth in summer 2012. The MS Island Sky will anchor off Eyemouth on Sunday August 19. It will tender passengers to the pontoon on the Middle Pier.
Local councillors and tourism businesses hope that the introduction of cruising vessels will give a much-needed economic boost to the town and surrounding areas.
The news has seen an air of excitement around the small fishing town. Staff at Gunsgreen house have said that the town needs a boost of f tourists.
Eyemouth is just five miles north of the Scotland – England border and is in an unspoilt corner of south-east Scotland just north of Berwick. It is a working fishing port and an ideal holiday base from which to explore the Borders and some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in the UK.
