Hadrian’s Wall Heritage is launching its new season of courses for tourism businesses.
Run under the banner of Know Your Hadrian’s Wall Country, there will be a preview day on October 19.
‘Talk of the Toon’ will be led by Newcastle expert guide Patricia Lowery, and will focus on Hadrian’s Wall in the city.
Julie Sloan of Hadrian’s Wall Heritage said: “The one day KYHWC courses are for businesses involved in tourism throughout the World Heritage Site, such as cafes, accommodation providers, cycle hire and taxi firms, to find out more about the area’s history and landscape.
“We work closely with businesses across Hadrian’s Wall Country and the topics are all requested by them, so we know there is a demand.
“Visitors often need more information about the Wall itself, the cities and towns or the surrounding countryside. It’s this local knowledge and personal service that can turn a good visitor experience into a great one, encouraging people to return.
“This preview course for the new season gives participants a chance to visit places they may not have done before and discover fascinating Roman facts about Newcastle.”
Since the first programme of courses three years ago, the range of topics covered, number of sessions and participants have grown year on year. Last season’s programme of 16 events across Hadrian’s Wall Country was attended by 200 people.
The courses cover the wealth of history and heritage, fascinating geology and superb flora and fauna around Hadrian’s Wall Country and are all led by experts.
For ‘Talk of the Toon’ lunch and refreshments will be provided and the tour will use public transport, all covered by the £15 booking fee. The day will run from 10am-4pm.
Booking is essential and payment must be received in advance. Contact Lucy or Julie on 01434 609700 or email email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
Participation costs have been kept low through support from the Solway, Borders and Eden Local Action Group and Northumberland Uplands Local Action Group encouraging tourism skills development to realise the economic potential of tourism.
